![The Recoleta Cemetery is a famous cemetery in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is located in the Recoleta neighborhood and contains the graves of very well-known people. It was inaugurated on November 17, 1822, during the governorship of Brigadier General Martín Rodríguez, with Bernardino Rivadavia as Minister of Government. It thus became the first public cemetery in the city. It was designed by Próspero Catelin, reserving plots for illustrious personalities in the formation of the national State.[1] In 1880, Torcuato de Alvear—the first mayor of the city of Buenos Aires—commissioned the architect Juan Antonio Buschiazzo to remodel the cemetery.
